Safari Overview

These 4 days gorilla and wildlife Safari allows you to do gorilla trekking in Bwindi Impenetrable National Park- a UNESCO heritage site it serves as a habitat to the minimum of 461 mountain gorillas over the 1063 total population worldwide making it the park with the biggest population of Mountain Gorilla with about 21 gorilla families. Bwindi is also rich with flora, several bird species such as the African broadbill which is endemic to Albertine Valley, animals like duikers, and forest elephants. The scenic hills give impressive scenery and sightseeing adventure. Lake Bunyonyi is commonly known for its 29 Islands that exhibit adventurous moments.

Itinerary

Day 1: Pick up From Entebbe and Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park

Your 4-day Gorilla and Wildlife Safari begins with an early morning start at 6:30 am. After breakfast, your safari guide will pick you up from Entebbe to embark on a scenic 417 km drive southwest to Queen Elizabeth National Park, which takes about 7 hours. The journey will include a stop at the Equator, where you’ll have the opportunity to take amazing photos and witness the demonstration of the geographical separation between the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

As you continue your road trip, you will be welcomed by the stunning Rwenzori Mountain ranges. Upon arriving at Queen Elizabeth National Park, you will enjoy a relaxing evening game drive where you’ll have the chance to spot several wildlife species such as leopards, lions, hogs, buffaloes, duikers, hyenas, gigantic elephants, and a variety of antelopes.

After the game drive, you will check in at your lodge for some relaxation, followed by dinner and an overnight stay.

After an early breakfast, your day kicks off with a morning game drive through the Kasenyi trail and Queen’s Mile in Queen Elizabeth National Park. On this drive, you will witness a variety of wildlife, including Cape buffaloes, warthogs, elephants, topi, Uganda kobs, waterbucks, hyenas, leopards, and possibly lions. The park is also home to numerous bird species, providing excellent birdwatching opportunities.

After the Kasenyi game drive, you will continue your journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park, passing through the Ishasha sector. This part of the trip gives you the chance to see the famous tree-climbing lions, along with buffaloes, elephants, and waterbucks.

You will arrive in Bwindi in the evening, where you can relax after the journey, followed by dinner and an overnight stay at the lodge.

After an early morning breakfast, you will head to the park offices for a detailed briefing by the Uganda Wildlife Authority ranger guide. By 8 am, your gorilla trekking adventure begins as you venture into the dense Bwindi Impenetrable Forest. This exciting journey takes you deep into the rainforest, navigating through lush vegetation and rugged terrain. Along the way, you will encounter forest elephants, buffaloes, giant forest hogs, bushbucks, black-fronted duikers, and, if lucky, even a leopard. However, the main highlight is the encounter with the endangered mountain gorillas, a moment that is both thrilling and unforgettable. You will have an hour to observe the gorillas up close, watching them interact and go about their daily routines a once-in-a-lifetime experience that will leave you longing for more.

After the exhilarating gorilla trek, you will embark on a scenic drive to Lake Bunyonyi, passing through the beautiful Kigezi Highlands, known for their picturesque terraced hillsides. Upon arriving at Lake Bunyonyi in the afternoon, you can enjoy a peaceful canoe ride across the lake, famous for its 29 stunning islands and being the second deepest lake in Africa. Alternatively, you can take a nature walk around the area to learn more about the local culture and the lake’s unique environment. End your day with a delicious dinner and overnight stay at the lodge.

After a hearty breakfast, your safari guide will transfer you back to Kampala via Mbarara. Along the way, you will have a stopover at the Igongo Cultural Center for a relaxing lunch break, where you will have the opportunity to enjoy authentic local cuisine. You also have the option to visit the cultural museum, offering a fascinating insight into the rich history and traditions of the Ankole region. After lunch you will continue your scenic drive to Kampala, passing at the Uganda Equator for the scenic photos and buying of local crafts, arriving in the late afternoon/evening to catch your flight back.
