This wildlife tour offers a thrilling experience with diverse activities such as day and night game drives, a boat cruise, horseback riding through the park, and a community walk to engage with the local culture. The tour takes you to Lake Mburo National Park, Uganda’s smallest national park, located about 200 km from Kampala, making it the closest wildlife park to both Kampala and Entebbe.
Despite its size, the park is rich in wildlife, offering sightings of animals like zebras, elands, cape buffaloes, impalas, warthogs, kobs, monkeys, and giraffes. Additionally, Lake Mburo is home to a vibrant bird population, with around 250 bird species, including some that are endemic to the area, making it a prime birding destination.
The park’s name is rooted in the local people’s history and beliefs surrounding the formation of Lake Mburo, which adds a cultural depth to the experience.
You will be picked up by your safari guide, who will provide a short briefing about your safari. You will then embark on a 4-hour drive to Lake Mburo National Park, passing through small urban centers along the Kampala-Mbarara road. Upon arrival, you will have lunch, after which you will prepare for a brief evening game drive. This drive will allow you to encounter the park’s famous zebra herds, along with other wildlife such as buffaloes, giraffes, and elands.
After the game drive, you will check into your lodge for relaxation and dinner. Following dinner, you will embark on an exciting nocturnal game drive, which starts at 6 pm and lasts until late into the night. During this drive, you may encounter various nocturnal animals like leopards, hyenas, jackals, civets, genet cats, and serval cats, offering a unique and thrilling experience.

After enjoying breakfast, your safari guide will take you on a morning game drive or a community walk, depending on your choice. Lake Mburo National Park has a deep-rooted history of wildlife-human conflict, where species such as lions were hunted to extinction. However, due to improved relations between the government and local communities, wildlife and people now coexist harmoniously. As a result, animals like giraffes and even lions (though rare) have been successfully reintroduced into the park.
On your game drive, you will experience sightings of herds of buffaloes, zebras, impalas, and a wide variety of birds and other wildlife. Afterward, you will return to the lodge for lunch and some time to relax.
Following lunch, you will take a short drive to the lake, where you will embark on a two-hour boat cruise. As you cruise Lake Mburo, you will have the chance to spot hippos, crocodiles, and a wide array of water birds including the African fish eagle and the elusive African finfoot. Along the shores, you will see buffaloes, antelopes, and other animals coming to drink, making for excellent wildlife photography opportunities.
After the boat cruise, you will return to your lodge for a relaxing dinner and a comfortable overnight stay.

After an early morning breakfast, you will be briefed on the dos and don’ts of horseback riding in Lake Mburo National Park. This unique experience offers close encounters with wildlife such as zebras, antelopes, and various bird species, providing a peaceful and immersive connection with nature.
After the horse-riding adventure, you will check out of the lodge and begin your journey back to Entebbe International Airport, passing through the picturesque Ugandan countryside.
